You are correct Raincoat is a hydrophobic wax blend suspended in an evaporating oil carrier to create a paste. This wax is blended to have an affinity (chemical attraction) for plastic. This bond is fairly tight. However glass has a different chemistry and the wax does not stick. Raincoat won't harm glass.
It took me about 5 years to develop Raincoat because there are few hydrophobic substances that stick to plastics and, at the same time, do not cause smearing or hazing.
There is a product called RainX that works well on glass. RainX uses a completely different chemistry involving alcohol and reactive siloxanes to adhere to glass. RainX does not work on plastics.
