During my bike's 700 mile ride-in service, the mechanic found a chunk of metal stuck to the magnetic gear box drain plug.
The mechanic called the BMW rep who had never heard of such a problem and had the shop break down the engine. Three pieces of circlip were found and some missing (broken) teeth on the clutch basket.
That's a known problem. I got my clutch replaced, too together with the oil pump. BMW instructed dealers to change to pump and to clean the oil circuit as well as the oil sump.
