Verdict is out! It appears that of the two bolts holding the caliper, one was left out and the other one wasn't tightened. Caliper went vertical while the wheel was turning, in the way of the spokes... Human error. BMW wheel design engineers can rest easy. My dealer gave me the impression he would make things right. Now let's see if he puts his money where is mouth is... I'm optimistic.
