Interesting how all the rumors get started!
I'll answer what I know for sure.
The 45mm forks, all forks flex. It is how they flex and how it is tuned into the chassis that matters. I know more than anyone how these forks work and flex is not an issue in the least bit on this bike. I spoke with Motozilla when he frist was going with his project and hinted very strongly about staying away from the 50mm cause of some testing I had done with our rally bike. The flex that you want happens just about the time your stiff bike starts headshaking at about 70MPH.
I haven't ridden his bike so I don't know how it works, but we took some drastic measures to run the 50s on the 900RR. Sometimes....
And we don't plan on wining the Baja 500. We just go to race for fun and do good. I think by then we will have a race version of this bike.
When we were riding the bike last year, I wasn't sure it was testing for production, I thought it was building for a new race bike.
And one thing came out at the press intro.
Some guys didn't get it.
I say if you have to ask, you don't understand. If you don't understand, ride it and you will. I was addicted the first time I rode an early 900RR and this is the best fix for my habbit yet. Could I afford it, not yet. But I'd become a doctor if I had to.
Or a pimp for BMW, which many already think I am.
Doesn't matter, I get one to practice on next week. So you can all drool....
JIMMY
It is more real than you can imagine and the bike is so close to the production one that even I'm surprised. The wheels and exhaust are changed plus the motor on the bikes they are race are tuned by the same guy who did the work on our Boxer Rally bikes.
They really want to learn from the racing activities so they can make the bikes better. It actually looks like Simo was leading the race off the start. It will be interesting to find out how he finished. It was a small German GNCC type race they were testing the bikes at.
